NEW Symbiosis Quartet


New tuba-euphonium quartet called the SymbiosisQuartet

The brand-new tuba-euphonium quartet had its first residency at the University of Central Florida on the week of September 13, 2010 and consisted of Gail Robertson and Matt Tropman (euphoniums), as well as Stacy Baker and Jay Hunsberger (tubas).

The quartet had its first performance at the University of South Florida on September 18 for the Tuba-Euphonium Day hosted by Prof. Jay Hunsberger and his studio. A PDF copy of the schedule can be downloaded here.

September 18, 2010 (University of South Florida, Tuba-Euphonium Day)

  • 9am: Arrival and Warm-Up. FAH 102
  • 9:45am:: Tim Ornato/Joe Taylor/Besson presentation; FAH 102; Besson horns available all day in Room 102 for trial
  • 10am: Concert: Student solos and small ensembles; FAH 101: USF Recital Hall
  • To include: UNF Tuba-Euphonium Quartet, UCF soloists and ensembles, USF soloists and ensembles, Tom Waid and Stetson Tuba Trio, and more student soloists
  • 11am: Euphonium Master Class (Robertson, Tropman, Dickman, et al) FAH 101
  • 11am: Tuba Master Class (Hunsberger, Baker, McCalla, Burke, Waid, et al) FAH 102
  • Both master classes will offer opportunities for student performance and critique
  • 12pm: Mass Ensemble Rehearsal. FAH 102
  • 1pm: Lunch break
  • 2pm: Robertson/Tropman/Baker/Hunsberger Quartet Master Class (arranging/coaching ensembles/general information). FAH 101
  • 3pm: Aaron McCalla Master Class and Recital. FAH 102
  • 4pm: The Music of Francis Schwartz (Hunsberger, Quartet). FAH 101
  • 5pm: Robertson/Tropman/Baker/Hunsberger Quartet Concert. FAH 101
  • 6:15pm: Final Concert: Finale Ensemble Concert; FAH 101 or 102
